What are Shiatsu and Reflexology? Philosophy and method of teaching
In
the society of today Shiatsu and Reflexology are in growing demand. It
is for those who are seeking help for their body complaints and also
those who want to learn techniques of self-healing. Through qualified
finger pressure on specific energy points throughout the body, Shiatsu
and Reflexology help to dissolve stress, stimulate the circulation of
the fluids in the body, remove dead cells and activate stagnant energy.
Thus they have a beneficial effect to counter back pains, tired muscles
and limbs, improve the general quality of body’s metabolism,
create right emotional conditions for deep rest and can also be very
effective in weight control programs, improving quality of life and
opening new channel of understandings. They are both easily
understandable techniques and thus can be learnt by everyone with or
without medical education. Besides having positive results in many of
the common body complaints, they develop a self-healing way: in many
cases the student can treat his/her own body with his/her own
manipulations and/or exercises. Although initially Shiatsu and
Reflexology were associated with the healing techniques more adopted by
oriental cultures, have made their way into the main stream of western
culture and are, today, widely practiced. In the structure of the
School Osho Divine Healing Arts, the student will be frequently
reminded that our professional role, although vast, is a complementary
support to the traditional allopathic ways. One is challenged to
think how human beings like us are capable of perceiving sensitive
realities such as the network of meridians (pathways through which the
body’s inner energies circulate) and especially the relationship
between the different parts of the body, with all principals (YIN/YANG,
5 PHASES, KYO-JITSU etc.) which are the foundations of this healing art
and the guidance of many understandings. When the body is unwell
(des-eased) it means that it has lost its capacity to care for itself.
The work of the Shiatsu Operator is to create the conditions for the
dis-eased body to go back to their status of normality. This happens
always though a state that can be called relaxation. And truly Shiatsu
can be the most effective technique to create stages of relaxation that
are very healing. At this point we need to understand exactly what we
mean by relaxation. And by relaxation we mean a state of total
presence, brightness, harmony with one’s own body, well-being.
Then we can understand that relaxation is a very complex process that
includes the physical body, the mind process and the emotional process.
The
training lasts 3 years and gives the student enough time to assimilate
and practice before the diploma is handed over which is without doubt
an advantage. Each person represents for the Scuola O.D.H.A. not only
the possibility to train highly competent shiatsu operators but also
people that take a spiritual attitude in their work.
